East Bound And Down - Jerry Reed (Karaoke Style)

And this goes out to all the truckers - both male and female - for without you we wouldn't have half the things we have...food, fuel, etc. It's my way of saying thanks!!!

Teddy Bear - Red Sovine (karaoke style)

I have been a karaoke junkie for aprox. 15+ years now. So I thought I'd try the embeding feature available here. I originally recorded this at SingSnap on May 21st, 2007. I'm not usually one to do Country as I love my Classic Rock but this one has a story that needs to be told...as with most of the songs I choose to do...

I Will Remember...Lest We Forget

Today is Remembrance Day and I will bow my head at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month for 2 minutes to pay tribute to all those who fought for our freedom throughout the years, both past and present.

I will remember those brave men and women, globally, who courageously volunteered for the cause of freedom and peace.

I will remember our Canadians who have served in peacekeeping missions throughout the world.

I will remember all the families whose family member never made it home.

I will remember the children who had to grow up without their father or mother.

I will remember the parents who lost a child and/or children.

I will remember the innocent civilians who died.

I will remember the soldiers who died and who have no known grave.

I will remember the reason why I wear my poppy.

I will remember the Royal Canadian Legion who have helped and continues to help support our veterans and their families.

I will remember Canadian Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae's immortal war poem In Flanders Fields.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

I will remember all the medical advances we have gained from the surviving veterans who have been injured during these wars, which in turn advance medicine for our civilian population.

I will remember the Canadians who stayed home to help supply our soldiers with food, machines, and whatever else they needed.

I will remember all the men and women who are fighting in wars right now.

I will remember the lesson war has given us – to learn to live peacefully with our neighbours – to find alternate ways to solve our disagreements.

I will remember that it is our responsibility to remember…

Lest We Forget.

HELP END WORLD POVERTY - SIGN THE PETITIONS!

Today was the day Live 8 concerts happened globally to pressure World leaders to help end global poverty. I got the chance to see some artists via TV who donated their time to this worthy cause. The Make Poverty History campaign is a movement calling for more and better aid, trade justice and 100 percent debt cancellation. In Canada where one in six children are poor, we too are calling for an end to child poverty. The G8 leaders are meeting in Scotland on July 6th, 2005 for the G8 summit and hopefully they will listen to the world's request.

Today I signed my name to the Live 8 list  at http://www.live8live.com. Don't worry the don't want your money; only your voice! I also signed  my name to the list at http://www.makepovertyhistory.ca. The bonus with this site is that an email can be forwarded to Prime Minister Paul Martin and to your local MP. You too can also sign your name to these documents and make your name heard.

So why am I writing about this? Well, I too was once one of Canada's poor trying to raise my son on social assistance. So I understand all too well what poverty is! And believe me it is very difficult to get out of poverty. I lucked out. I was able to go back to school and get my diploma, get off assistance and get a good paying job. But there are so many more who are not able.

And then I keep seeing all the natural/unnatural disasters happening in the world - the tsunami in December, the drought in Africa, etc. - war torn areas throughout the world and how it affects the people living in those areas.

So my wish is this - I want to see world poverty end in my life time!

It can be done.

It must be done!
